CPE Bach
Sonatas for flute and obbligato keyboard
François Lazarevitch and Justin Taylor put all their sensitivity and virtuosity at the service of CPE Bach’s sonatas for flute and obbligato harpsichord.
The majority of these works date from the years 1745 – 1766, when the Bach of Berlin was in the service of the flutist King Frederic II. Two solos enhance this program: the famous Sonata in A minor for solo flute and the Fantasia in F# minor for keyboard, which demonstrates the art of improvisation of son Bach.
At the heart of the Age of Enlightenment, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is the most representative personality of Empfindsamkeit, this movement which explores the deep and unfathomable eddies of man and nature, by opposing the science of the masters of the beginning of the century, the freedom of inspiration and therefore the liberation of form. The artist seeks above all to express the movements of the soul, displaying unforeseen traits sometimes going as far as the bizarre.
