Unpublished works for flute by Marin Marais
Presentation
In 1991 the success of the film Tous les matins du monde revealed to the general public the genius of Marin Marais, helping to renew the general public’s enthusiasm for baroque music. More than 30 years later, in 2023, the acquisition at auction by an American collector of a manuscript from the early 18th century caused a sensation, since it turned out to contain previously unpublished pieces for flute and basso continuo by Marin Marais.
Always curious about new repertoires, the flautist François Lazarevitch decided quite early to begin a reflection on these works of which this new program is the fruit, and of which the title, “Voix Humaines” is that of one of these new pieces…
A recording with Alpha Classics is also in preparation.
The Musicians of Saint-Julien breathe new life into works never performed in France since the beginning of the 18th century, comparing them with some viola da gamba pieces transcribed for the flute, according to the advice given by Marais himself in the texts of his prefaces. Pieces for musette and recorder also enhance this extraordinary concert.
Discovering unpublished works by a genius in the history of music is no longer something that happens so often… A unique moment not to be missed under any circumstances!
